EDC 102 Class 5: How should we use online data?

Most of us have posted our online profiles and now working online is nbd. Today we continue to explore the types of data we might use to describe our schools and their districts and decide on some of the questions our context report should include.

Objectives/Goals:

  • Use URIteacherknowledge to accumulate information using research record pages.
  • Explore information available on RI schools.
  • Decide on some questions that our context reports should answer.

1. Sharing: What you found out and what Mr. Fogleman expects.
2. Let's explore school data as a class, to see how the process might work.
2. Work in groups of two or three to create a research card.
  • go to infoworks page
  • choose a school/district.
  • click on a link for data. Try to understand what the representation are trying to communicate by discussing your ideas with your partner. How can this data inform a report on a particular school. (We will formalize this process next time.
  • Create a research card to record your discussion. Name research cards as 102 Res: Data name here.
  • Link research card to our Context Report Home Page .
3. Let's agree on some questions our reports should answer by sharing what we've found out.

By Monday

  • Take the online quiz for Chapter 2 of your text.
  • Send Mr. Fogleman an email with your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choices for school/district to report on.
